Disc Hat Rack Installation Instructions
← Back to the product you were viewing
These instructions cover our disc hat rack. Each disc hangs on a keyhole cut into the back, and the kit includes a wall marker and spacer so the screw lands in the right spot at the right height. It is in our coat and hat racks collection.

Installation steps
- Prepare. Decide where it goes. Push the wall markers into the keyholes on the back. Hold the piece level against the wall and press it on, so the markers dimple the wall where the screws will go.
- Drill pilot holes. On drywall, drill 3/16 inch pilot holes at the dimple marks and tap the drywall anchors in. If the 3/16 inch bit feels too small for the anchor, step up slightly. On wood or a stud, drill 3/32 inch pilot holes and skip the anchors.
- Insert the screws. Start the screws in the pilot holes. Hold the circle spacer against the wall and drive each screw until its head is flush with the spacer, then remove the spacer. That leaves the screw standing off the wall by exactly the right amount.
- Hang it. Use the marker removal tool to pull the wall markers out of the keyholes. Push the keyholes onto the screw heads and slide down to lock. If it feels loose, tighten the screws a little further.
Hanging several
If you are putting up a row, 12 inches on center is a good spacing. That leaves about 4 inches of wall between discs and keeps hats clear of each other. For caps you can tighten to 10 inches. Rest the crown of the hat over the peg rather than hanging it by the back strap, so the weight sits across the whole crown.
