  • See the wood in person. Compare oak, mahogany, maple, walnut stain, and poplar side by side before you order.
  • Get a custom piece quoted. Bring measurements, photos, or drawings.
  • Tour the shop. Get in touch first so someone is free to walk you through.

How it started

Nook Woodworking grew out of Nook, the café and craft beer bar David Feiger founded at 45 Irving Avenue in Bushwick in 2019. While contractors built out the space, David worked alongside them and taught himself woodworking. He built most of the café's furniture, including the bookcases that divide the room into nooks and a curved dining table that uses material from the building's original 1930s construction.

In 2020 the pandemic stalled the café's opening. David spent that time in the shop, kept coming back to shelves, and opened Nook Woodworking on Etsy the same year. When orders outgrew the café, he rented space in a neighborhood wood shop. In 2022 the company moved into a larger woodshop and hired its first employee.

The longer version is in Meet the Maker: David Feiger.

What we build

Shelves are the core of the catalog: floating shelves in two thicknesses and lengths to 84 inches, floating corner shelves, key hook shelves, cord hole shelves, propagation shelves for plant cuttings, and picture ledges. Every shelf is solid hardwood on a hidden steel bracket or a visible bracket, with no veneer and no MDF.

We also build coat racks, lap desks, and serving trays, plus one piece that is only half woodworking: the NYC Realtime Subway Clock, a mahogany case around a screen that shows live subway arrival times.

Sizes, finishes, weight ratings, and care are covered in the FAQ.
