What is in the box
- Your shelf, with the steel bracket stored inside it
- Aluminum track, taped to the shelf
- Screws
Tools you need
- Drill
- Level
- Pencil
- Stud finder
Installation steps
- Position. Decide where the shelf goes and mark the location on the wall. Find and mark the studs on both sides of the corner. If you cannot reach a stud, use drywall anchors such as toggle bolts.
- Install the aluminum track. Remove the track from the shelf. Using a level, hold the track on the wall with about 1 to 3 inches of space between the corner and the end of the track. Screw it to the wall, with anchors if needed.
- Align the steel bracket. Leave the steel bracket inside the shelf for this step. Slide the shelf onto the aluminum track until the steel bracket touches the other wall. Keeping the shelf level, mark the wall through the two screw holes on the bottom side of the bracket, and mark the edges of the bracket on the wall.
- Remove the steel bracket. Slide the shelf off the track and take the bracket out. Lift it on both ends at the same time; if it is snug, pry gently with two screwdrivers, or tap it out with a hammer, or lift it with pliers.
- Secure the bracket. Line the bracket up with your marks from step 3 and screw it to the wall, bottom holes first, until each screw sits snug against the bracket base. Then drive the top holes. Use 2 to 4 screws per stud, mostly at the top. On walls other than drywall, you may need to pre-drill with a 3/32 inch bit.
- Attach the shelf. Slide the shelf onto the bracket and track. It should fit snugly and may need a bit of force.
- Adjust and secure. If the shelf will not slide all the way on, lay a towel over it and tap it gently with a rubber mallet or a piece of wood. Wiggle it side to side to help it seat.
Installation tips
- Leveling. If the shelf is not level once it is on, place a shim behind the bracket.
- Stability. If the shelf can move up and down, wrap electrical tape around the ends of the bracket rods.
