About this piece

Mahogany is the darker, quieter of our two main woods. Tight grain, deep reddish brown, and it reads more formal than oak on a wall.

This is the same inch and a half board as our oak floating shelf, cut from 12 to 84 inches and hung on a hidden steel bracket that mounts into studs. A long 72 inch run sits over most sofas and dining tables. The 12 to 24 inch lengths do well in entryways and above nightstands. And a run does not stop at 84: the shelves are modular, so boards join end to end for a wall-length shelf at any length.

If you want it darker still, we stain the mahogany walnut. Poplar is the option if you plan to paint.

Grain and color shift from board to board. Yours may not match the photo exactly, and that is the point of solid wood.

What makes these handcrafted floating wood shelves better than mass-produced wall shelves?

Each shelf is made in Brooklyn from high-quality hardwood. Our shelves are precision-milled, hand-finished, and have a easy-install floating design that is better than cheaper veneered, MDF, or pressboard options.

How is this shelf packaged for shipping?

All of our products are carefully wrapped in packing paper and then packed using protective materials like foam and bubble wrap.

Can I customize the size or depth of my wood floating shelf?

Yes, we offer customizable sizes, finishes and other options. If you would like to explore options not shown on a listing, contact us by clicking the "customize your shelf" form.

Can I install it on tile or brick walls?

Yes, we recommend installing the bracket directly into the wood backing behind the tile. Use a masonry screw or anchor for brick.

Is this shelf made in the USA?

Yes, we manufacture and ship our wall shelves, floating shelves, and all other handcrafted goods from our woodshop in New York City.
