This lap desk pairs a solid mahogany hardwood top with a full-grain leather cushion attached using brass pins (or silver pins on the black leather option). The cushion is filled with pellet beads that mold to your lap.

Is the leather real full-grain leather?

Yes, we use full-grain leather — the highest quality grade — which is the most durable type and develops a beautiful patina over time. It will outlast cheaper top-grain or bonded leather alternatives by decades.

Can I use this lap desk for a laptop, or is it just for writing?

Both. The desk is designed as a versatile surface for laptops, tablets, books, journals, or eating. You can request a built-in front lip during ordering to keep a laptop or pens from sliding off your lap.

Is this lap desk handmade in the USA?

Yes, every lap desk is handcrafted in our Brooklyn, New York woodshop. The wood is hand-selected, milled, finished, and the leather cushion is hand-attached with brass or silver pins by our team.

How is the desk finished and does it need maintenance?

The wood surface is finished with a protective Danish oil that highlights the grain while keeping a natural matte look. Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth as needed. The full-grain leather can be conditioned occasionally with a standard leather conditioner to maintain its softness.
