Before beginning, it is critical to ensure your bracket is suitable for heavy-duty shelves and can support your desired weight. Attempting to use wall shelves with brackets that are not rated for the load could result in failure and damage to your walls. Keep in mind that each of our shelves comes with installation instructions, so follow the guides below as a general rule of thumb.
Step 1: Locate and Mark Wall Studs
The sturdiest part of your wall is the internal studs. Use a stud finder to locate them and mark their positions with a pencil. You'll want to fix your floating shelves with brackets to these studs to ensure ultimate safety and strength.
Step 2: Position and Level the Bracket
Position the bracket against the wall at your desired height, aligning the screw holes with the stud marks you made. Use a level to ensure the bracket is perfectly horizontal.
Pro Tip: If you don’t have a physical level, you can use a level app on your smartphone!
Step 3: Pre-Drill Pilot Holes
Once the bracket is level and in position, use your pencil to mark where you will drill. Remove the bracket and pre-drill pilot holes at these marks. Pilot holes should be slightly smaller than your screws; they create a guide and allow the screws to grip the wood firmly.
Step 4: Secure the Bracket to the Wall
Place the bracket back on the wall, aligning its holes with your pilot holes. Insert the screws and, while keeping the bracket level, tighten them until the bracket is completely flush against the wall. Repeat for all remaining screws, and your heavy-duty bracket is installed!
