About this piece

Mahogany is the darker, quieter of our two main woods. Tight grain, deep reddish brown, and it reads more formal than oak on a wall.

This is the same inch and a half board as our oak floating shelf, cut from 12 to 84 inches and hung on a hidden steel bracket that mounts into studs. A long 72 inch run sits over most sofas and dining tables. The 12 to 24 inch lengths do well in entryways and above nightstands. And a run does not stop at 84: the shelves are modular, so boards join end to end for a wall-length shelf at any length.

If you want it darker still, we stain the mahogany walnut. Poplar is the option if you plan to paint.

Grain and color shift from board to board. Yours may not match the photo exactly, and that is the point of solid wood.

We also cut LED channels. Choose the groove size and placement on this page and add your own strip lights; the light itself is not included.

Are these real wood floating shelves?

Each one is a single board of solid mahogany, milled and finished in Brooklyn. Real wood floating shelves hold their line over long spans, where veneer and MDF boards sag.

How do long shelves ship?

In packing paper, foam, and bubble wrap. Long mahogany boards ship in boxes sized to the shelf so they arrive straight.

Can I customize the size or depth of my wood floating shelf?

Yes. Lengths run to 84 inches and depths to 12, and the Customize Your Shelf form covers anything beyond the listed options, including custom depths and finishes.

Can I install it on tile or brick walls?

Yes. On tile, set the bracket screws into the wood or stud backing behind the tile; on brick, use masonry anchors. A long shelf still needs its stud or masonry points marked first.

Do you make a lighted version of this shelf?

The same shelf can be ordered with a cut LED channel. Enter the groove size and location in the listing form and add a strip light of your choice; we do not supply the light.
