About this piece

Dark wood on a pale wall is the classic reason to pick mahogany. This is our thin shelf with rounded front corners in exactly that role: a slim, dark line that holds a plant or a few photos without dominating the room.

It runs 6 to 36 inches long and 3 to 8 deep, a narrow floating shelf on hidden brackets, cut from a single solid board.

Walnut stain is the darker option. Oak and maple run lighter, and poplar comes unfinished for painting.

Hang it beside a mirror or over a desk. It is a shelf that works in pairs.

What are rounded corner floating shelves?

Both front corners are rounded into a soft curve, so the shelf has no sharp points at eye level. On dark mahogany the rounded corners read as a soft shadowed curve rather than a hard edge.

How narrow is this floating shelf?

It is 7/8 inch thick, in lengths to 36 inches and depths of 3 to 8 inches. That narrow profile is the point: a narrow floating shelf for spots where a thick board would crowd the wall.

Does mahogany suit modern rooms?

The reddish brown mahogany warms up modern and minimalist rooms, and a row of thin floating shelves in the same wood builds a calm, even wall display.

Why choose a thin shelf over a thick one?

A thin shelf keeps small rooms and tight walls open. Bathrooms, hallways, and desks take a 7/8 inch mahogany shelf where a 1 1/2 inch board would dominate.

What is the difference between the 7/8″ and 1 1/2″ thickness options?

The 7/8 inch shelf is the slim display version, sized 6 to 36 inches long. The 1 1/2 inch thick line runs to 84 inches and carries roughly 45 to 50 pounds per stud for heavier loads.
